LABORIE
Nestled in the Paarl valley, the Laborie farmland was awarded to Isaac Taillefert in 1691. The Taillefert family wanted to name the farm after the French region La Bri but colloquialisms resulted in the adoption of Laborie as the official name in 1708. After changing hands to multiple families, KWV bought the Laborie Wine Farm in 1972. Interestingly, national monument architecture dating back to 1750 resides on the Laborie wine estate. The Paarl Laborie Wine Farm specialises in award-winning still, sparkling, and fortified wines. The wonderful wine estate places an emphasis on sustainability and is thus a member of the Biodiversity and Wine Initiative (BWI), the Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) scheme, and lastly the Wine Industry Ethical Trade Association (WIETA).
