Awarded from Simon van der Stal to Isaac Schrijver in 1692, the Lanzerac Wine Estate was originally named Schoongezicht. Renamed once purchased in 1914 by Elizabeth Katharina English, she was the first to bottle the wine grown on her farm. After many changes of hands, the Lanzerac wine farm has recently been acquired by a British consortium. As popular on many Stellenbosch wine farms, much of the architecture has been declared national monuments.
The Lanzerac Wine Estate was the first wine farm to ever commercially produce the native Pinotage. Three distinct ranges characterise Lanzerac wines, the Alma Mater range, the Premium Single-Varietal range, and the Heritage range.
